Firstly, who are BrightMinded and what do you do?

We are a team of mainly software engineers who enjoy using the latest web technologies to solve our clients’ business needs. We build solutions using the best off-shelf tools available and integrate them to create the most suitable, bespoke solution for each client. We work hard to build long-term relationships with all of our clients.

Next to that, we love:

Sustainable solutions to problems, Experimenting with Artificial Intelligence, Sharing ideas in our Friday afternoon presentations (some of which you can enjoy on our YouTube channel)… and the views from the top floor!

we have never needed to relocate - our office has just grown with us!

You are one of our longest standing Hubbers here! What makes the Dock Hub such a great place to work?

We’ve been here since 2012, when we visited the Dock Hub to attend a workshop. We liked it so much we moved in pretty much straight away and we’ve been here ever since. The central Hove location allows most of us to walk to work, and having the train station so close makes it easy for visitors and for our colleagues who are based further away.

The variety of flexible office and meeting spaces has meant that although we have grown a lot over the years, we have never needed to relocate - our office has just grown with us! Having a cafe in the building is a real bonus, and along with the friendly reception team it makes The Dock Hub a great place to welcome visitors.

BrightMinded was founded in 2011. What is your number one piece of advice for someone looking to start their own business?

Persevere! Things won’t happen as you plan them, but over time they will fall into place. As long as you focus on your clients’ needs.

Tell us about one of BrightMinded’s biggest successes...

Producing a COVID-19 help directory for Community Works and the Trust for Developing Communities in just over a week at the beginning of the lockdown. It is still up and running pointing people to the relevant local help in this pandemic – in different languages.

Any office secrets/ surprise facts you can share about BrightMinded?

We’ve had six different suites within the Dock Hub, and we’ve now been on all 4 floors. In fact the suite we are now in was the first room we ever visited for that workshop back in 2012, so we’ve come full circle. And it’s taken us many years, but at last we have table football in our office!

Introduce us to the newest member of your team…

Charlotte joined us in February 2020 as a junior developer/support consultant. She lives locally and loves being able to save ££ on her daily commute to the office, especially as it’s a pleasant place to walk! She finds being on the top floor of the building a great incentive to take the stairs and appreciates having a cafe in the building for those days she doesn’t bring in her lunch - along with plenty of options nearby to have lunch with the team when the urge strikes.

How do you keep team morale high while you’re working from home?

Communication. It is important to check in with everyone regularly to ensure people can still work together effectively, but also to ensure that mentally everyone is doing okay. Social contact is important and needs more explicit attention now that everyone is working from home. The team is good at organising social events like playing online games together and streaming film nights.
